The 2 Minute Rinse

Last week I came across the '2 Minute Rinse,' an initiative put forward onto social media by the brand Soap & Glory. The challenge is, showering in two minutes or less. Sounds a bit crazy right? WRONG. It's actually not all that bad.

Honest.

I promise, seriously!

I've been doing the 2 Minute Rinse nearly every time I shower and despite a lot of it resulting from the overly competitive side of me, I have been doing it for its benefits for the planet and my bank balance. There is a method to the 2 Minute Rinse and I advise you follow Soap & Glory's instructions in order to make it as easy as possible....

1. 10 to 15 seconds of hot water to get wet.
2. Then TURN OFF THE TAP while you suds, scrub, shave and shampoo. (We would recommend shampooing last because soap in the eyes can sting, and that’s more likely to happen when your head is hanging down.)
3. RINSE for 20 to 30 seconds. (If it’s a conditioner day, rub on your conditioner. Wait the required amount of time, then take another 20 second rinse)

This is a great challenge, it's fun and even if you do it just once a week...you are doing your bit to help the planet! So now it's your turn, next time you shower, give it a go! Tweet me at @dimplesdiaries and @SoapandGlory with the hashtag #2minuterinse and tell us how you got on!

  5. I wonder what this does to your hair, I read in a magazine once that the biggest mistake in the shower is that we don't get our hair wet enough before we wash it! Guess I'll just have to get it really wet really fast :) Cool post!

  6. That is really cool!! I normally take short showers anyway except when I'm shaving... But I never actually thought about turning off the water as I scrub (I turn off the water when I shave and I multitask when I'm shampooing and stuff)... Hmmm...I'll have to try that.

    lovely post

  11. Love this idea - especially as our shower has one power setting and nothing else - it really does waste so much water.

Slightly worried about the cold water blasting out with it though!

    Hmm maybe...

    1. Yeah I tend to sacrifice a couple of seconds rather than standing underneath it straight away....that would be way too hard! Thanks for the comment Emma!

  13. my dad got a timer for our shower that goes off after 5 minutes so we don't waste too much water ... never tried turning off the shower halfway through though, sounds like a great idea to me

  14. This is something I should definitely try, I'm guilty of spending upto 25 minutes in the shower which I know wastes such a lot of water! I think I may have to challenge myself to do this!

  17. My showers before work are always around 2 minutes anyway! Although to be fair it's usually a result of getting out of bed too late!
