I shall call her goldie and she shall be mine and she shall be my goldie.

I've fallen in love . . . with a vintage 1950's gold handbag that I managed to find for just £10!
I can't quite believe it. Of course its purpose isn't for holding my nick nacks, no no no. . . it's there to be admired, not used!

I do believe, we as a fashion nation, have grown to lose value in our garments. With the rise of fast fashion, we discard as quickly as we buy. From now on, I want to invest in items I can adore and treasure for a long time. After all, my passion for clothes should be something I choose to engage with positively, otherwise I'll lose out spiritually and emotionally with the act and I'll never be completely satisfied in what I buy and the amount I buy.

What are your opinions on this subject and how do you engage with the act of consuming clothes?

Thanks for reading!

Hannah

  1. ugh i hate discarding clothes- i see it as throwing out money, so im right there with you about investing in pieces! and your purse is so lovely- it adds such a nice, delicate detail. also, how WONDERFUL is that fur stole of yours. i love it!

  3. I'm having a wardrobe overhaul at the moment, I'm sorting through what to giveaway and what to pop on ebay. I think I cling onto things at times when really I just need to let it go. I'm trying to buy pieces that will last rather than get bored of in a few months. I bought a really good quality pair of shoes not long ago in the sale and it feels amazing knowing I'm not wrecking my feet as much as I usually do! I'm not sure if I could spend £100+ on an item of clothing though (apart from a coat I suppose), but I do like the idea of knowing the heritage of the item.

Thanks for your comment also by the way! I recently bought a smart phone recently after not upgrading my prehistoric phone for 5 years and I must admit I'm slightly addicted! I have really limited internet so I don't use it outside the house only for texts/calls, but inside I do the same with checking emails/social media! whereas before I'd barely ever use my phone which annoyed a fair few people when I forgot to reply to their calls/texts. It's mad how things can change in a flash. I've been thinking of buying a yoga mat and doing a morning/night routine to try and help me relax a bit more. How have you found it?

    1. I'm coming to grips with investing more money on clothes, but I guess when you get used to paying high street prices and Primark prices especially, you find anything else waaaay too expensive, but the reality is, if Primark wasn't an option most people would most probably happily invest in quality!

It's definitely a lovely way to start the day, it wakes you up and gets you thinking a lot more positively! I'm certainly no expert and it'll take time till I'm super stretchy haha but I'd definitely say to give it a try! :)

Thanks for the comment Katie! xxx

  10. Great find I love the chain detail! I would have the same feelings towards clothes/accessories. I believe in buying investment pieces regardless of designer/brand/quality and taking care of them. I treat my clothes well (so to speak!) and they last from year to year. Some of my favourite items are nearly 6/7 years old from when I started taking note of my fashion choices at 16/17!

    Have a good weekend!

    1. That's so great you have clothes from when you were a teen, I agree I think it's important to take care of them and then you have the pleasure of being able to look back on them and even pass them down to your children later on in life!

Thanks for the comment Nat! x

  12. I couldn't agree more, I feel that we discard items of clothing as quickly as we get them as they are no longer fashionable and it is a little saddening! I want to make sure I purchase items I know that I will cherish for a very long time, something as stunning as the lovely golden handbag you picked up for such a bargain price!

  14. What a sweet little find! I guess now that all of our phones are so small & thin there is a plus side to this bags size! A friend from the past told me something really helpful one time, I was deciding whether to buy a pair of shoes (for $30) I liked, but I didn't love and she said 'will you get 30 wears out of those shoes that you only like?'. It changed my attitude to buying clothes forever! I cannot tell you how much money I have saved by asking myself this question. And when I want to really invest in a good piece of clothing I make sure its something that I won't throw out and that will be applicable to any trend.

  26. Ha! the best things are to be admired and not used! However, that is a handbag to lovingly flaunt. What a find. And Gold goes with absolutely everything, it's almost concerning how versatile it is!

  30. I love that golden bag - what a find!
I think, in general, people these days are less likely to expect their purchases to last the long haul, everything's replaceable. And this mentality goes for much more than clothes! Which is a shame in someways... I'd like a wardrobe of more investment pieces but unfortunately I am too skint to afford it at the moment!
